Sylvia Gao (XYG)
Sylvia is a New York based artist with a background in painting and spatial design. She is currently developing her practice while continuing her studies at Columbia University. Her work explores how traces of daily life, memory, and perception can be constructed and transformed into visual forms examining how subjective experiences take shape and become visible.

Sensing
Collecting fragments from daily life: objects, images, textures, and patterns through processes such as scanning, (molding, and observation.) These elements carry subjective memory and emotional traces. .

Transformation
These collected elements are reconfigured through collage and material experimentation across different scales. The process transforms personal memories and senstations into visual compositions, where fragments begin to form new relationships.

Set Reality
A representational figure is introduced as a point of presence like a signature within the composition. Together with the constructed background, it reflects how identity is perceived and assembled through both internal experience and external observation.
